About

ABOUT

New York born actor, Abbott Alexander inherited the mantle of acting from his father, Philip Abbott, veteran character actor whose many film credits include; THE INVISIBLE BOY (cult classic), Paddy Chayefsky’s THE BACHELOR PARTY, THE SPIRAL ROAD (with Rock Hudson) SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH (with Paul Newman) and star of the original nine year ABC television series, THE FBI.

Alexander began acting in NBC daytime dramas, LOVERS AND FRIENDS and FOR RICHER,FOR POORER. He played drums in a punk-rock band, was a conjurer in a street circus, and received scholarships to New York ballet studios - a precursor to his physicality on stage that makes him a stand out in many of his theatrical reviews.

He is a member of The Actors Studio and his many award-winning stage performances include the west coast premiere of Hugh Leonard’s Irish legacy, A LIFE and was nominated for Best Actor by The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle for his role as Lot in Tennessee William’s KINGDOM OF EARTH. His acclaimed one-person show SONATA FOR RIMBAUD ran for six months in Hollywood and played the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland and received the LA Weekly Award for ‘Best Creation’.

Abbott played the ‘Anthem Sprinter - Doone’ in Ray Bradbury’s Irish comedy hit, FALLING UPWARD! at Garry Marshall’s Falcon Theatre and at the landmark El Portal.  He starred in Edgar Lee Masters’ SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY directed by original Broadway cast member Betty Garrett.

ONE NIGHT BEYOND, Alexander’s fearless journey into the dark mystical nether world of the supernatural, was nominated for Best Solo Performance by the Valley Theatre Awards. Also nominated by the VTA for Best Solo Show was THE LONG GRAVEL ROAD, Abbott’s re-imagining of the Parsifal myth.

At NYC’s MOMA he played the role of ‘music fan’ in BEAT OF THE TRAPS. Artist Mike Kelly’s collaboration with choreographer Anita Pace and artist Stephen Prina.
